Handweavers' Guild Open House

Please review the summary of plans to date.  Any additions and corrections will be made at the April meeting.

Date: April 21: 10 AM-2 PM at Balance-Herschell House; 256 NE Randolph Street in Peoria.   A date for visiting the B-H House to determine the organizational flow and lay- out is yet to be determined.

Refreshments will be set up in the kitchen with all members bringing cookies or bars.  Margo Tennis will bring coffee and 8 oz bottles of water.  Joan Quigg will bring the Guild coffee pot and a basket for voluntary donations for refreshments.  Still needed: someone to provide napkins, cups, creamer and sugars.  A Guild member will attend the refreshment table and use tongs or gloves to serve the food.  We will plan on food to serve 100 guests.

Members will again bring items for display.    The area for sale items will be well removed from the display area.  There will be a sign-up sheet in this area for guests who would like to be on the Guild mailing list for the fall/winter sale.

Demonstrations:  Lise' Mundwiller and Mary Didesch will bring the two Guild floor looms so guests can try weaving on them.  Jeannie Krumholz will demonstrate spinning.  Joan Quigg will demonstrate Kumihimo. Jennie Hawkey will bring her tape loom and the children’s cardboard looms. Ellie Slusser and Margo Tennis will have Inkle Looms for guests to try. Judy Kimbro, Linda McDaniel, and Cheryl Borys volunteered to help wherever needed.

Margo Tennis is working on publicity.  Members with e-mail received flyers they can print out for placement in businesses near home and work.

Name-Draft Study Group

Guild members who have signed up for the Name-Draft Study Group are:  Joan Quigg, Lise’ Mundwiller, Diane Denekes, Linda McDaniel, Mary Didesch, Cheryl Suckow, Judy Kimbro, Jennie Hawkey, Margo Tennis and possible Ellie Slusser.  The group decided to make smaller squares so they could be combined into a table runner or other household items.  Jennie Hawkey is exploring appropriate yarns.   A time line has yet to be determined but consensus seemed to be that this Study Group would not be activated until after the Weave-O Project is completed.

Upcoming Event

A Community  “Culture Day” will be held in Toluca, Illinois on Saturday, June 9, 2007, from 10:00 AM-5:00 PM.  Contact person is June Farrar at (815) 452-2713.  They are looking for spinners and weavers to demonstrate or simply inviting interested people to attend.

An Explanation:

Change in Newsletter Format

Why oh why when I have these wonderful old looms that just get better with age, do these relatively new computers seem to be out-of-date before I even understand all they can do.  In short, my computer has been back in the shop so I am limping along with borrowed equipment………   Margo

Inkle Loom Workshop

The “Each One, Teach One”  Inkle Loom Workshop was held on Saturday, March 10 at the Weaving Room.   Those attending were Mary Didesch, Judy Kimbro, Lise’ Mundwiller, Jennie Hawkey, Ellie Slusser, Diane Denekes, Margo Tennis, and Guest, Jill Kennell.  By the end of the day, everyone was weaving.  Everyone had a great time with fun, food, fellowship and of course learning from one another…Thanks, Weavers!
