Hand Weaver’s Guild
of
Peoria

 July 2006

AfterGlow

Convergence 2006 is over but happy memories remain.  The Peoria attendees enjoyed shopping, learning, fellowship, meeting new people, viewing all the spectacular weavings, and did I mention shopping!

Our next question is just how do we best share all that we learned with our entire group.  Over and over, we are reminded how special it is to be able to enjoy weaving activities together.

AND Our Next Special Event!

Saturday at Joan’s

When:  Saturday, July 22

Where: Joan Quigg’s home at 13723

      Ivy Lake Road, Chillicothe

Time:  9:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Morning activities devoted to dyeing:

Bring cotton yarn to dye, rubber gloves, & a plastic container such as a large butter tub or small bucket.  If yarn is not already in skein, Joan has a yarn winder.

Afternoon activities will be devoted to card weaving so bring 3 or 4 colors of non-sticky yarn to make a narrow band.  We can exchange yarns if desired.

Three Sister’s Park

Loom Project

Joan Quigg, Jennie Hawkey, and Lise’ Mundwiller have worked hard to clean, repair, and set up the historic loom at Three Sister’s Park.  It is now warped and ready for weaving rag rugs.  The Guild agreed to demonstrate weaving on this old loom during the upcoming Heritage Days August 19 and 20.  We will discuss sign-up times at our Saturday Fun Day at Joan’s.

Local Alpaca Yarn

Shari Prichard of Autumn Sky Alpacas, Chillicothe, IL sends her fleece to be processed in November.  In the past, she has had it processed into skeins for knitters but if we would like some cones of weaving weight yarn, she can
do this.  She invites us to come to the farm to pick our colors “on the hoof”.  When Shari’s customers need more of a particular yarn, they don’t tell her the lot number they need, they call and say, "I need more Gretchen….."
