Hand Weaver’s Guild
of
Peoria

December 2005

December Meeting
The December Meeting is the Guild’s Annual Christmas potluck and silent auction.  The date is Tuesday, December 6th.  Plan to meet at 6:30 for a 7:00 dinner.

Jennie Hawkey is our hostess and she sends the following invitation:

Please bring a dish to pass.  I will provide meat and beverages.  I will also have plates, utensils, etc.  This is also our annual Silent Auction.  You can bring something to be auctioned, bid on an auction item, or just watch the fun!  Any donation is welcome and it does not have to be weaving related.

Several members are planning to car pool so if you need a ride, don’t hesitate to call someone.  We want everyone to share in this most enjoyable evening.
A Whopping Big THANKS!

Starting in January, we will be holding Guild meetings at 2026 N. University in a building owned by Dennis Didesch (Mary’s son).  He has most generously agreed to let us meet here for a minimum of one year and will give us adequate notice if he needs the space in the future.  The meeting room has good lighting, restroom facilities, and we can provide locking cabinets to house our library.

From the November Meeting

The November meeting was held in Metamora at historic Stevenson House.  Shirley Adams of the Stevenson House Board hosted our meeting and gave us a tour of the building.  Members present decided the location would be good for our April 2006 Open House. Shirley will talk to the Stevenson House Board about the dates of April 22 or April 29, 2006 as possible dates.

The group was happy to welcome new member, Anne Strickert .
President Joan Quigg reported that the beginner’s loom is still available for sale.  The price would be reduced by 30% with payments in installments. The Guild is planning to use the loom as a way to encourage new weavers and as a dedicated memorial to Peggy Turner.

Jennie Hawkey, Lise Mundewiller, Joan Quigg, and Dianne Denekas are working very hard to make the Guild Overshot Squares into a completed coverlet to present to Peggy Turner’s family.  Ellie Slusser will embroider a dedication on the coverlet.  Any one who would like to assist is encouraged to do so.

Guild members enjoyed a wonderful time of sharing and “show and tell.”

For the program, Jennie Hawkey led the group through a discussion of the variety of possibilities for Overshot Weaving.  She had many exquisite examples from her own weavings.   Members then worked toward planning their projects for the January workshop.
