Handweavers Guild of Peoria
September 2005

A Message From Our President

Fall is just around the corner, and I hope that inspires you to do a little weaving!  I am excited that the 12 harness loom that has been taking up space in my living room is finally functional.  One of my cats, Cocoa, is excited because she has discovered that the back beam full of thread is just wide enough for her to sit on, and that she can then play with the threads that extend up and into the heddles.  I hope the project survives! (And what about Cocoa?)
Warped Cat
As you will notice, the September meeting will again be at Skeins and Shuttles.  The shop will remain open through most of September.  Lise’ is going to teach us some beading!  Perhaps your bracelet will complement the jacket from our last workshop or the new project you bring for show-and-tell.  Come ready to be creative!

Don’t be afraid to share your failures as well as your successes during the meeting.  Last month we had a good discussion as we brainstormed ways to fix or design around problems.  Even though I have been weaving for a long time, it was valuable to me.  One of the best parts about the Guild is learning from each other-and seeing a twisted fringe made on a hair twister was great fun!  Thanks, Barb.

Whether you are a regularly attending member, brand new, or haven’t had the time to meet with us regularly, mark your calendar and plan to come.  I look forward to seeing everyone!

September Meeting

The next regular meeting will be held Tuesday, September 6, at Skeins & Shuttles, 4704 N. Prospect in Peoria Heights at 7:00 PM.  Lise’ Mundwiller will be teaching us how to make a  “Beadwork Bangle Bracelet” as a Make It-Take It project.  There will be a small charge for materials.  Everyone is welcome.

Thanks Barb!

The August program was enjoyed by all.  Barb Atkins brought several triangle looms and demonstrated the whole process from threading to weaving to finishing with samples of finished weavings.  She also showed how to make a twisted fringe.
Guild Display

Weavings by our Guild members will be featured at the downtown branch of the Peoria Public Library during the month of September.  Thanks to Dianne Denekas and her helpers for setting this up.  Be sure to take a look.
